Job Opening | Research Fellows

The Research Fellow will contribute to the interdisciplinary research agenda of the Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), advancing scholarship in theoretical and applied Islamic ethics. The successful candidate will support faculty research, contribute to strategic initiatives, and assist in the coordination of CILE's leading international platforms, including the International Islamic Bioethics Association (IIBA) and the Global Alliance for AI Ethics (GAAIE).

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Initiatives & International Engagement (IIBA & GAAIE)

• Support the research, coordination, and implementation of IIBA and GAAIE activities.
• Coordinate with advisory boards, partners, and working groups to manage meetings and deliverables.
• Prepare concept notes, briefing papers, reports, and governance documentation.
• Assist in maintaining stakeholder engagement and institutional partnerships.

2. Faculty Research & Scholarly Support

• Conduct literature reviews, data collection, archival research, and qualitative or quantitative analysis.
• Assist in preparing journal articles, book chapters, monographs, and policy briefs.
• Support the development of research proposals and grant applications.
• Contribute to faculty-led projects across Islamic ethics and related disciplines.

3. Academic Operations & Event Management

• Assist in organizing conferences, seminars, workshops, seasonal schools, and research events.
• Track project milestones and contribute to reporting and compliance requirements.
• Support research dissemination through digital content, newsletters, and outreach materials.
• Assist in supervising research assistants, interns, and student researchers.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Master's degree or advanced PhD standing in Islamic Studies, Islamic Ethics, Islamic Law, Bioethics, Philosophy, Social Sciences, Science & Technology Studies (STS), or a related field.

Experience

• Demonstrated interest in Islamic ethics, bioethics, AI ethics, or applied ethics.
• Experience contributing to academic publications, research reports, or grant applications.
• Familiarity with interdisciplinary and collaborative research environments is desirable.

• Reports, executive summaries, and governance documentation for IIBA and GAAIE.
• Operational and logistical support for CILE's academic programs and events.
