Winter School | Call for Applications

29 June 2026

Organized by the Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), the research seminar on Reasoning from Scripture: Investigating the Hermeneutics and Construction of Islamic Applied Ethics brings together scholars from Islamic studies, applied ethics, philosophy, law, and comparative religious ethics to examine how Islamic scripture is interpreted in response to contemporary ethical challenges.

CILE invites applications for its Winter School, which will be held online from September 22-24, 2026, concurrent with the research seminar. It will provide selected participants with the opportunity to engage with leading researchers in the field. It opens an intensive space for scholarly exchange, methodological reflection, and focused discussion on the relationship between Islamic scripture and contemporary ethical challenges. This year, we are also inviting students to deliver short presentations on topics related to the main themes and questions addressed in the call for the research seminar.

How to Apply

Applicants wishing to attend or present at the Winter School are requested to submit their applications through the online application form. Applications should include a current CV, a letter of interest, and, for those wishing to present, a title and abstract of the proposed presentation.

Applicants based outside Doha may apply to attend or present at the Winter School online. Selected online participants will be able to join the sessions virtually and, where applicable, deliver their short presentations remotely on the last day of the seminar (September 24, 2026).

Applicants from Qatar will have the opportunity to attend the seminar in-person at the College of Islamic Studies, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Doha.

Further details about the program and the presentations will be announced later.
