The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, hosted a public lecture on May 1st, 2019, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Auditorium of the College of Islamic Studies building.
The lecture examined the role of Hadīth and Sunnah as references for ethical theorization, an area that has historically been under-researched. Scholars highlighted the lack of in-depth studies capturing the ethical content embedded in various Hadiths and in the Prophetic practice. The discussion distinguished between two levels of analysis:
- The Prophetic Sunnah as a revealed reference or an exemplary application of revelation.
- The Sunnah as a historical reference for the ethical norms prevailing during the formative period of Islamic history.
The lecture offered participants critical insights into the ethical dimensions of the Prophetic tradition and its relevance for contemporary scholarship in Islamic ethics.
