Based on almost a decade of activities and publications, CILE would like to share with you its new ambition and plan for the future. With focusing more on ethics in practice, CILE aspires to shift its activities more towards Applied Ethics. How can CILE achieve this goal?
- in research: to build recognition of Islamic ethics research as a credible source of applied knowledge,
- in education: within the College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, CILE now brings its expertise to offer a Master of Applied Ethics and is working hard to offer also a PhD in the near future in sha Allah,
- in training: to become a leading training provider in the field of Islamic Ethics in its offices or directly in the premises of companies, businesses, institutions or wherever there is a need,
- in partnerships: to create synergies and share knowledge with potential stakeholders in similar research institutes, ministries and business industries,
This new website is part of this new roadmap and we would like to invite you to view some of its new features.
With more than one million people following us on social media, we could not have imagined such evolution of traffic.
CILE in few figures: more than 600 videos, hundreds of activities all around the world (public lectures, summer schools, annual international conferences, seminars etc), dedicated professors and staff, CILE Alumni Network and more. In the light of our vision, we have been honored to welcome hundreds of scholars, practitioners, students, professionals or independant researchers.
Since 2012, we have published journals, articles, book reviews, papers in peer reviewed journals, booklets, eJournals, books, eBooks and so much more. Our website has reached a very high level of complexity.
Evolution of CILE website: 2012 / 2015 / 2019
The way people browse the Internet has completely changed. Back in 2012, 90% of CILE website traffic was coming from a desktop. In 2019, more than 80% is coming from a mobile device (phone or tablet). We had to take the necessary actions not only to adapt ourselves to the new standards but also to anticipate the future.
This is CILE 3rd website. Behind the scene, everything has changed. We switched from Wordpress (that did an amazing job when the amount of content was limited), to Drupal, to meet our new requirements and future expectations.
Here are some key new features we focused on:
- Speed, speed and speed,
- Cleaner design: we don't want you to loose your time looking for the information. We've cleaned up all unnecessary widgets to focus only on what really matters,
- Mobile first! During the development of this website, we considered the experience on mobile devices first. Desktop after,
- Interactivity: We said it in the introduction. We are now focusing on the practical level. In line of this new strategy, this website is yours: write for CILE, comments, dynamic filters as per your interests, sharing options of social media, etc, all these features are in the center of this website.
New Homepage
In addition to our traditional banners, our events calendar and "Write for CILE", we're highlighting all areas of research covered by CILE without having to browse the main menu. With one click, find the content you are interested in.
Most of the time, internet users just browse the homepage before... closing it, and browsing another website. There's a huge amount of information online easily accessible. CILE Activities are important to us. Whether it's about a public lecture, a seminar, an annual international conference or a summer school, it's the moment we meet each other. We know your time is precious. We don't want you to miss our activities. They now have their own section among others:

With more than 600 videos, we had to find the best and fastest way to show you what you are exactly looking for. Let's take an example. You are interested in "Medicine and Bioethics". You are more precisely following the work of Dr Mohammed Ghaly. And within his production, you are looking for his podcast videos series.
