CILE to host Public Lecture on Organ Donation

The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS), will host a scientific lecture on ‘Organ Donation between Islamic Ethico-Legal Discourse and Muslim Reality’ this week. Organised in collaboration with Qatar Organ Donation Center, CILE is inviting the public to attend the lecture which takes place at QFIS premises on Tuesday 25 February between 7 – 9pm.

This lecture is part of a series of CILE events organised to address the issues of Biomedical Ethics. The speakers at the latest lecture are two prominent specialists in the field of organ transplantation and the related ethical issues. Dr Mohammed Ghaly, Professor of Islam and Biomedical Ethics from the Research Center for Islamic Legislation & Ethics (CILE) will deal with ‘Ethical Conundrums of Organ Donation Through the Lens of Muslim Religious Scholars’ and Dr Riadh Fadhil, Professor of Urology & Transplant Surgery and Director of Qatar Organ Donation Center will present the Doha model of organ donation under the title ‘Doha Model of Organ Donation: Thinking Beyond Nationality’.

Choosing such medical topics for the detailed academic discussion reflects the vision adopted by CILE. The research center is committed to helping Muslims reform their status quo, both theoretically and practically, by reconciling with the entire world and by contributing to the international exchange of ideas and universal reality through their own doctrinal, ethical and legislative perspectives. Within this broad vision, CILE pays special attention to the field of Islam and biomedical ethics with the aim of constructing holistic Islamic perspectives that can introduce seminal contributions and radical reform in this emerging field of study.
