CILE Online Seminar "Food Security and Islamic Ethics: Human Rights, State Policies and Vulnerable Groups"

The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) in Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), held a seminar on 30-31 May 2021 via WebEx Platform under the title:

Food Security and Islamic Ethics: Human Rights, State Policies and Vulnerable Groups

It was convened by Dr. Ray Jureidini, who directs the CILE Research Unit Migration, Ethics and Human Rights, Dr. Dalal Aassouli, Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of the Master of Science Program in Islamic Finance at CIS, and Dr. Said Hassan, Assistant Professor at Al-Azhar University, Egypt.

The seminar discussed the question of food security with three combined perspectives:

  • the world response to the challenge of sustainable food security,
  • the Islamic perspective in addressing food security concerns,
  • the most vulnerable groups who face this issue, including women, children, migrants and the displaced.
