Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Raissouni
President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars

Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Raissouni was born in Morocco in 1953. He is the President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, and professor of usul al-fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence) and Shariah's maqasid (higher purposes of Shariah) at the faculty of Arts and Human Sciences, Muhammad V University and at Dar al-Hadith al-Hassania Institute in Rabat. He is also a senior expert at the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, Jeddah and a visiting professor at Zayed University, UAE and at Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies. He has supervised more than one hundred MA and Ph.D. theses and authored many books on the higher purposes of Shariah, Islamic political theories and issues of religious revival. These include "Nazariyyat al-Maqasid 'Inda al-Imam al-Shatibi i.e. Imam Al-Shatibi's Theory of the Higher Objectives of Islamic Law", "Al-Waqf al-Islami: Majalatuh wa Ab'adu" (Islamic Endowments' Fields and Dimensions), "Al-Shura fi Ma'rakat al-Binaa" (Shura-Based governing and the Battle of Construction), "Al-Fikr al-Islami wa Qadayana al-Mu'asirah (Islamic Law and our Modern Issues) and "Fiqh al-Thawrah: Muraja'at fi al-Fiqh al-Siyasi al-Islami” (Laws of Revolutions: A Revisionist Approach of the Islamic Political Laws).
