Dr. Daromir Rudnyckyj
Associate Professor of Anthropology, University of Victoria

Daromir Rudnyckyj is an associate professor of anthropology at the University of Victoria. His research addresses globalization, capitalism, religion, finance, development, Islam, and the socio-technics of money. He is the author of Beyond Debt: Islamic Experiments in Global Finance (Chicago, 2019). His first book Spiritual Economies: Islam, Globalization, and the Afterlife of Development (Cornell, 2010), was awarded a Sharon Stephens Prize by the American Ethnological Society. He is also the co-editor, with Filippo Osella, of Religion and the Morality of the Market (Cambridge, 2017). Dr. Rudnyckyj has published essays in American Anthropologist, Journal of Asian Studies, American Ethnologist, Cultural Anthropology, Social Text, Anthropological Theory, Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, Political and Legal Anthropology Review, and elsewhere. His research has been supported by the American Council for Learned Societies, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Social Science Research Council, the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research, and other scholarly foundations. He holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley.
